RWA have been going back to university, in particular Robert Whetham who is an ex-student of the University, but this time to help with a £400k refurbishment of one of Manchester Metropolitan University's most iconic buildings. To help with the continual expansion of the Manchester Metropolitan University's growth 70 Oxford Road has been converted into teaching and lecture theatre spaces. Commissioned by Gardiner & Theobald as their M&E consultant, RWA carried out a detailed performance design of the mechanical and electrical services on their behalf.
The design included provision of LED lighting and controls, upgrade of heating, ventilation systems, AV systems, data systems, and fire alarm systems. The facilities were designed to comply building regulations guidelines.
Works were carried out to a tight programme and budget in summer 2015 during the summer break in time for students returning in September. It included creating new teaching spaces, conversion of cinemas into lecture theatres, conversion of the bar & restaurant area into an IT suite and conversion of the art space into offices and a dance floor.
The Cornerhouse which used to be at 70 Oxford Road, has now got a new base called "Home" at Tony Wilson Place, Manchester.
